It’s hard to believe, but there’s a lot more to Central Market than meets the eye.
For example, when the 4-storey version of the market was completed in the 1940s it had the largest lift in Hong Kong and a chute that delivered rubbish from all the floors to collection vehicles at street level.
At the time, it was the only meat market in Hong Kong and, according to the Governor at the time, Sir David Trench, the largest in all of East Asia Market.
